The garment in question is a £1,795 boot/ trouser hybrid from Balenciaga dubbed “cosmetic pantashoes” which are being touted as “pants and shoes in one piece.”
Since then they have been sweeping red carpet events and spotted on the likes of Kim Kardashian andspandex-look shoes, inspired by 1980s sportswear, come in a variety of eye-popping colours and patterns, and feature a flattering pointed toe, giving the illusion of longer legs.
They also provide a touch of modesty for racier numbers, without the wearer having to reach for opaque tights.
The brainchild of designer Demna Gvasalia, the all-in-one jersey shoe-trouser combo is said to embody the “fetish collection inspiration” and has already sold out in some colours online.
But fashion insiders are divided over the trend with style expert Simon Glazin saying, “They’ll certainly get you noticed, but for the right reasons or not?”
Another user said, “Sure, if you’re a mega star with wonderful paparazzi bulb light making you look good, they’re great. But for the rest of us mere mortals, are they one step away from crazy?”
