Dre Powe - Oprah

Nicki Minaj will be the executive producer of a new comedy series on ABC Family. She will also appear on the new scripted series. Deadline reports that the show will be based on Nicki’s life, specifically on her years growing up in Queens, New York in the 1990s, her Trinidadian family and her “personal and musical evolution that led to her eventual rise to stardom.” The series, which is still untitled and will be a half-hour project, will be filming the pilot episode in the YMCMB rapper’s hometown later this year. The script was written by Kate Angelo (Sex Tape, Will and Grace, Bernie Mac). “Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches,” ABC Family’s Karey Burke said in a statement. “Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”

“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” Minaj told Deadline. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.” Minaj attended Manhattan’s LaGuardia High School and dreamed of being an actor before launching her successful music career. Minaj made her acting debut with Ice Age: Continental Drift in a voice role. She would go on to co-star in the feature comedy The Other Woman. She’s currently wrapping up her first starring movie role with Barbershop 3 alongside Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer and Queen Latifah.
