Ryuichi Sakamoto — the seminal Japanese musician and composer who recently scored The Revenant and Nagasaki: Memories Of My Son — has announced the release date for what will be his first solo studio album in eight years. A countdown has begun on Sakamoto's website for the as-yet-untitled project, which will be released in Japan on March 29 and worldwide on April 28.

"I have started making my solo which will be the first one in eight years if I can put it out sometime early next year," Sakamoto told The FADER back in July about the upcoming record. "I’m gathering what I’m interested in recently. My interests are moving toward both 'sound and music,' not just 'music.' I have been doing lots of field recordings, and also collecting lots of strange sounds."

Over the course of his career, Sakamoto has put out 19 solo studio albums, six live albums, several compilation albums, two extended plays, and countless EPs and singles. His forthcoming album will be available on 2XLP, CD, and digitally through Milan Records.
